Gotta love the Daily Mail. Have they finally woken up to the fact that some teenagers are a bit moody?
Niece #1's fave bands are currently Red Hot Chili Peppers, Raconteurs, My Chemical Romance. I'm going to test her reaction to The Gossip (http://myspace.com/Gossipband) next time I see her. Look at their "influences" list - impeccable.
Posted by Hg at November 2, 2006 09:27 AMHello Hg.
Don't know the Gossip - I'll have to check. I mostly listen to Planet Raaack on DAB these days.
I need to update the sidebar a bit. The girl likes Lost Prophets, Kooks, Killers, Fratellis. I love influence lists - for what they include and what they leave out. I once worked with a Norwegian band who sounded exACTly like Madness, and they spent their whole time saying how they were 'not a ripoff of Madness'. I loved the way they said 'Madness' with the emphasis slightly on the second syllable and the ess a bit too long.
Something about Goebbels and big lies comes to mind.
Posted by robin at November 2, 2006 10:18 AMYou lot over there still do fireworks and such? Whooo.
Posted by Wendz at November 3, 2006 08:18 AMYes, Wendz, indeed we do. Supposedly on Nov 5. But there is a rolling carpet barrage at pavement (sidewalk) level for about three weeks beforehand. The sound of happy idiots throwing bangers at each other and tying Roman candles to cat's tails and so forth.
Posted by robin at November 3, 2006 08:26 AMI haven't a clue what EMO is if it's something to do with music, but I did manage to spend the first two paras of this post thinking you were referring to my old job.
I used to be an EMO. Manchester City Council employed several hundred of us. But then they changed our job titles and we were called HOs instead.
I kid you not.
Posted by clare at November 3, 2006 05:52 PMClare: that's brilliant. You couldn't - well I certainly couldn't - make it up.
Emo is just indie, really, or rock, or miserabilly, but the 'kids' have to own their own music, y'know.
There is a video somewhere on the net of MTVs "Mighty Moshin' Emo Rangers". I might just put it up. The episode i saw contained the fab line, when our hero had been struck down: "Ohhh. You've crushed my SOUL."
Posted by robin at November 3, 2006 06:13 PM"You've crushed my SOUL"
LOL!
I'm sorry I did such a bad job of meeting you on Sat night. I became temporarily incapable of thinking of anything to say. Although come to think of it, it wasn't the only time it happened that night. My only excuse is that I only had 4 hours sleep the night before.
Posted by Clare at November 6, 2006 01:43 PMif you're in need of a laff, have a look at panic! at the disco (i think that's how they punctuate it - but maybe that's not quite pretentious enough) on youtube! it'll take you right back to those new romantic days (assuming you're THAT old), when we quite voluntarily looked like dickheads. oooh the blackmail potential! fortunately, i looked so repulsive, what with my turquoise jazz shoes, baggy black satin pirate trousers, white frilly shirt and embroidered sash, that no-one would ever have taken a pic of me. if your kids turn emo, make sure you have loads of evidence to taunt them with in later life - mwah ha haaaa
Posted by mad muthas at November 12, 2006 10:12 PMOh, I'm that old all right.
Tales of Blitz. Duran Duran and other assorted are sprinkled across this blog. My daughter doesn't much care for Panicatthedisco (orthography optional).
